Suffocated
he woke to a dirty
suffocation. the ground
pressing against his chest
and into his eyes. he tasted
earth between his teeth
tasted blood beneath his
tongue. his eyes opened
to black. lids clouded
forced shut. he did not
scream, but tried for
breath, only to find his
throat clogged, drowned,
the soil of an early grave.
he bled into the ground
while the ground bled
into him. and though he
meant to claw, his limbs
were lead weights
useless extensions weighted
by pain. by death
above, it rained
gentle and soft
while below the man
settled in to rot.
